Cosmos
Ikoma Plateau (Kobayashi City)
The vast plateau at the foot of the Kirishima Mountains is one of the top places in the prefecture to see seasonal flowers. The plateau is also completely covered in nearly one million cosmos starting in early October. There are several viewing spots throughout the park where you can take photos surrounded by the beautiful flowers.

Saitobaru Burial Mounds (Saito City)
View moreThis place is filled with the blooming of approximately three million cosmos flowers during the Saitobaru Burial Mound Festival held every year in early November. The sight of the pink cosmos flowers coloring the world pink wherever you look is breathtaking, as they bloom among the burial mounds across the plateau that reaches about 2.6 kilometers east to west and 4.2 kilometers north to south.

Takachiho Farm (Miyakonojo City)

Green Park Ebino (Ebino City)

The grounds here are complete with walking paths and grassy lawns.

Nobeoka Botanical Gardens (Nobeoka City)

The gardens also include three separate observation decks and a playground complex, and you can see people spreading out their blankets on the lawn to enjoy a picnic.

Roses
Kodomo no Kuni (Miyazaki City)
There is a Rose Garden located in a corner of Kodomo no Kuni, located not far from Aoshima, and there the Fall Rose Festival is held between late October and early December of each year. There is also a market every weekend in November, where different interesting booths and stalls gather each day. So why not visit to see the fall roses for a deeper experience than the springtime?

Spider lilies
Cape Toi (Kushima City)
In the fall, the bright red of the spider lilies (Higanbana in Japanese) contrast against the clear blue sky and beautiful green lawns, producing an otherworldly atmosphere at Cape Toi. Visitors will find wild Misaki horses, designated as a national natural treasure, grazing throughout the area, and you will be able to feel their resilience up close in their natural environment.

Hagi-no-Chaya (Kobayashi City)
View moreLocated along National Highway route 268, Hagi-no-Chaya is a place where over four million spider lilies bloom in late September of every year. Oujibaru Park (Takaharu Town)
View moreOver three million spider lilies bloom in September in this nature park centered around Oujibaru Shrine, said to be the birthplace of Japan’s first Emperor, Emperor Jinmu. The park seems to come aflame with the red of the spider lilies throughout, especially along the go-cart course that offers you a ride through verdant nature.

Rice terraces
Tochimata Tanada (Tochimata Rice Terraces - Takachiho Town)
The Tochimata rice terraces are located in the Shiibayama region of Takachiho district, designated as a World Agricultural Heritage, along Prefectural Road 7 heading towards Amanoiwato Shrine from the center of Takachiho. Come here to see what Japan looked like in times of old, surrounded by the rolling mountains.

Rice Terrace of Sennin (Large ginkgo observation deck - Shiiba Village)
View moreA highlight of this village is the nearly 100 stepped rice terraces along the mountain ridge at an altitude of 450 meters, across from the Oicho Observation Deck. A sight you can only see in Shiiba, they are known as the Rice Terrace of Sennin, as well as the Machu Picchu of Shiiba, because they seem to float in the sky.

Sakamoto Tanada (Sakamoto Rice Terraces - Nichinan City)
