Take a tour of famous spots for seasonal flowers in Miyazaki! - Fall -

There are countless different flowers that can be enjoyed in Miyazaki depending on the season. In addition to autumn leaves, there are many other things to see that exemplify autumn, such as the many colorful flowers and even traditional Japanese scenes of beautiful rice terraces spread across the slopes. Why not make a journey to see flowers and welcome the arrival of autumn?

Cosmos

Ikoma Plateau (Kobayashi City)

The vast plateau at the foot of the Kirishima Mountains is one of the top places in the prefecture to see seasonal flowers. The plateau is also completely covered in nearly one million cosmos starting in early October. There are several viewing spots throughout the park where you can take photos surrounded by the beautiful flowers.

Best time to see cosmos: Early through mid October.

Roses

Kodomo no Kuni (Miyazaki City)
There is a Rose Garden located in a corner of Kodomo no Kuni, located not far from Aoshima, and there the Fall Rose Festival is held between late October and early December of each year. There is also a market every weekend in November, where different interesting booths and stalls gather each day. So why not visit to see the fall roses for a deeper experience than the springtime?

Best time to see roses: Late October through mid November, late April through late May.

Spider lilies

Cape Toi (Kushima City)

In the fall, the bright red of the spider lilies (Higanbana in Japanese) contrast against the clear blue sky and beautiful green lawns, producing an otherworldly atmosphere at Cape Toi. Visitors will find wild Misaki horses, designated as a national natural treasure, grazing throughout the area, and you will be able to feel their resilience up close in their natural environment.

Best time to see spider lilies: Late September

Rice terraces

Tochimata Tanada (Tochimata Rice Terraces - Takachiho Town)

The Tochimata rice terraces are located in the Shiibayama region of Takachiho district, designated as a World Agricultural Heritage, along Prefectural Road 7 heading towards Amanoiwato Shrine from the center of Takachiho. Come here to see what Japan looked like in times of old, surrounded by the rolling mountains.
