This plateau located at an altitude of 540 meters offers a panoramic view of Kobayashi City. The roughly 90,000 square meter grounds, set against a backdrop of the Kirishima mountain range, is filled with flower gardens where flowers bloom throughout the seasons, attracting countless visitors as one of the most famous and popular places to view flowers in Miyazaki prefecture. Must see sights include roughly 150,000 California and Iceland poppies in mid April, hydrangeas in June, and red kochia in mid September. Then, the plateau is filled with nearly one million cosmos flowers in early October.
Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks during which all they will see is flowers the entire time, and there are also special viewing spots where you can take a photo of particularly beautiful flower gardens. We also recommend trying the popular extra-rich soft ice cream available.
Incidentally, the plateau is also home to the Kobayashi Ikoma Kogen Budoshu Kobo, a winery that produces homemade wine using 100% local grapes from Kobayashi. With a goal of producing wine loved by the local community, they produce not only traditional wines, but also wines rooted in the community that are easy on the palate and pair well with fresh local ingredients.
