長田峡
Nagata Gorge
A gorge featuring accessible trekking, with beautiful seasonal views of fresh greenery and autumn leaves
This roughly 10 kilometer gorge is located upstream of Okimizu River in Mimata Town in the southwest of Miyazaki Prefecture. The walking paths throughout the gorge offer a great way to enjoy a relaxing hike. As you do so, you can see Japanese salmon and big-scaled redfin swimming in the crystal clear waters of the river. You can see the waterfall immediately after descending the stairs from the parking lot, and quickly immerse yourself in the forest.
The greenery of the trees is beautiful, as are the mountain cherry blossoms in the springtime and autumn colors of red and orange in the fall. The gorge is in fact lit up at night during the autumn leaves season. Incidentally, there are no less than 14 objects produced by a local Mimata ceramic artist, depicting the Kappa monster of Japanese legend, hidden throughout Nagata Gorge Park. See if you can find them!
