This garden park is operated directly by Kirishima Shuzo, a famous shochu maker and producer of such honkaku imo shochu varieties as Shiro Kirishima and Kuro Kirishima, boasting the top sales in Japan.
Enjoy craft beer and cuisine made with local ingredients at the restaurant. After the meal, you can take a look at the beer brewing kiln or visit the shop where you can purchase shochu, original goods, and specialties from Kyushu.

Visitors here can take a tour of the shochu making process (with reservations) at the Kirishima Walk Factory, and taste some of the product at the end. Visitors can also learn all about shochu and why shochu is made here at the Kirinokura Museum. Meanwhile, the Kirishima Eco Factory uses art and video to explain how the production of Kirishima shochu is an ecological and cyclical activity that is good for the environment.

This is the largest entertainment district in Miyazaki, located in the center of Miyazaki City, with Nishitachibana Street at the center and encompassing the nearby Chuo, Ebisu, Takamatsu, and Nishi-Ginza streets.
The locals have given the area the affectionate nickname of “Nishitachi”. Both sides of the streets are lined with a number of warm colored Chochin lanterns, and the heart dances with feelings of nostalgia as they sway gently in the breeze.
There are over 1,500 eating and drinking establishments in the Nishitachi area.
The compact streets are literally packed with plenty of places for your barhopping needs, including Izakaya style eateries offering delicious local snacks, stylish bars, standing bars, and restaurants serving everything from yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) to Italian cuisine.

Aoshima, a small island of 1.5 kilometers in circumference that is surrounded by the wavy rock formation known as the Devil’s Washboard, is itself believed to be a power spot. The abundant blessing of rich subtropical flora that grows throughout evokes an atmosphere of more southern climes. Meanwhile, the Aoshima Shrine located near the center of the island is popular for offering blessings for marriage and matchmaking.
There are many other attractions around the island worth a visit as well, such as the Miyakoh Botanic Garden Aoshima where visitors can enjoy tropical flowers in bloom, and the Aoshima Beach Park that offers a selection of drinks and meals.

This large suspension bridge crosses the Ayagawa Gorge in the Kyushu Chuo Sanchi Quasi-National Park. It is one of the largest pedestrian bridges in Japan at a height of 142 meters and a length of 250 meters. Crossing the bridge offers a thrill as though you are walking on air, and a massive panoramic view of the spacious sky along with one of Japan’s largest laurel forests (a type of subtropical forest) right before your eyes.
Aya Town, where the Teruha Suspension Bridge is located, is registered as a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO's "Man and Biosphere Program," and approximately two kilometers of nature paths offer visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the forest beyond the bridge. There is also a roughly three hour course where you can observe the valuable flora of the laurel forest on foot, accompanied by a guide (advance reservation required, guidance in Japanese only). Visitors can also learn about the laurel forest and the creatures living there at the Lucidophyllous Forest Museum, located close to the bridge.

This facility, directly operated by Unkai Shuzo, is located in Aya Town that features one of the largest laurel forests, a type of subtropical broadleaf forest, in Japan. The brewery produces shochu and sake using the waters purified by the laurel forest.
In addition to their honkaku shochu and sake breweries, the site is also home to the Unkai Budoshu Jozosho winery and a beer brewery. Visitors can also take a tour of sake production at the Aya Shizengura Kengakukan (the Aya Natural Brewery Museum - reservations required). Participants can even taste the local beer and other alcoholic drinks at the end of the tour, and even make their own original bottles or aluminum can badges.
In addition to the breweries, there is a shop selling the various types of alcohol available, local goods, and a restaurant using local ingredients.
Visitors can also tour the glass workshop of glass artist Kuniaki Kuroki. Original works by Kuroki, who has been nationally recognized as a contemporary master craftsman for his exceptional skill and is renowned throughout the world, are available for purchase.

A burial mound is a type of ancient Japanese burial mound. The Saitobaru Burial Mounds consists of over 300 Kofun of various sizes scattered in a vast plateau area stretching 2.6 kilometers east to west and 4.2 kilometers north to south. Designated a special historic site, it holds one of the largest clusters of Kofun in Japan. The round shaped Oni-no-Iwaya is the only Kofun in the clusters with an open entry way on the side, and visitors can tour the inside. Legend has it that this Kofun was built in just one night by an Oni, or demon, that fell in love with the beautiful Konohana Sakuyahime.
The entire area forms a park that attracts numerous visitors as a famous place to view seasonal flowers, with cherry blossoms and flowering canola in the springtime, sunflowers in summer, and cosmos in the fall. Meanwhile, artifacts uncovered during archaeological digs at the site are available on display at the Saitobaru Archaeological Museum of Miyazaki Prefecture, offering a chance to learn about life in ancient Japan (admission free). There is also the Konohana-kan (Guidance Center) with a shop and restaurant featuring local goods and produce, which is worth a visit.

This famous waterfall is situated along the Shonai River, a tributary of the Oyodo River, in the Kirishima Geopark. Visitors can view the impressive waterfall, measuring 18 meters high and 40 meters wide, up close from a suspension bridge, and experience the true grandeur of nature. In April 2024, the Snow Peak Miyakonojo Campfield was opened, managed directly by Snow Peak, one of Japan’s leading outdoor brands.

Along the way is the notable “Lion Rock”, so named because it looks a bit like a lion, which makes a great place to snap photographs.

You’ll also want to try some of the famous Sakurajima mini mandarin orange flavored soft ice cream as well. There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy meals using the famous local produce.

Tenmonkan is a shopping district always filled with countless visitors where the streets are lined with gift shops, cafes, and restaurants serving local cuisine. After enjoying some shopping, make sure you get your fill of Kagoshima delicacies, such as the shaved ice topped with fruit known affectionately as Shirokuma, or polar bear, shochu alcohol, and dishes made with the famous Kagoshima Berkshire pork.

A Japanese garden facing Sakurajima and the villa of the Shimazu family, head of the Satsuma Domain

Sengan-en was built as a second home by Shimazu Mitsuhisa,19th head of the Shimazu clan, in 1658. The vast Japanese garden, one of the most notable in the country, is one of the top attractions in Japan, and one of the leading attractions in Kagoshima as well.
There are a number of sights to see in the massive 50,000 square meter garden, with flowers blooming throughout the seasons, such as crane lanterns originally used for experiments with gas lighting, and Kyokusui garden where a so-called Kyokusui no En party is held every April. The building where successive generations of lords of the clan spent their time still survives, and visitors can see inside.
The former Shuseikan Machinery Factory, located within Sengan-en, is Japan's oldest Western-style stone machinery factory built in 1865 and has been designated as an important cultural property by the national government. Currently, the building is called the Shoko Shuseikan Main Building and used as the Shoko Shuseikan Museum that teaches the 800 year history of the Shimazu Clan. The former Shuseikan Machinery Factory, along with a portion of Sengan-en, were registered the Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution World Heritage Sites in 2015. Incidentally, there is also Satsuma Kiriko cut glass workshop open for tours as well. There is also a facility offering you a chance to experience the traditional culture of Kagoshima by wearing Japanese armor or kimonos, as well as trying your hand at archery.
This is a must see destination when traveling from Kagoshima to Miyazaki.

Visitors to this aquarium can observe a collection of approximately 10,000 marine creatures from approximately 800 species up close, with a focus on those that live in the seas around Kagoshima. You will particularly be overwhelmed by the impressive whale shark, the world’s largest fish, on display in the Kurosio Great Water Tank. You can also see dolphins coming out to train and play at the outdoor Dolphin Waterway that connects with the ocean (located in the free admission area). There are also plenty of corners where you can interact with the creatures, making this the perfect place to bring the family.

[Day 4]Shiroyama Park Observation Deck
Enjoy beautiful views of Kagoshima from the top of Shiroyama

Located at the top of the small mountain at an altitude of 107 meters, this park offers a view encompassing the streets of Kagoshima City, the beautiful Kinko Bay, and Sakurajima. The spot is famous for its nighttime views as well. Access here is also quite convenient because it is a selected destination for tour buses and taxis.

This caldera lake measuring 15 kilometers in circumference and 233 meters maximum depth was formed by volcanic activity in prehistoric times. The lake is actually filled with a great number of large eels, measuring two meters in length, and the lake is also shrouded in myth, said to be home to the mysterious creature “Issie”. The lakeside blooms with a variety of flowers throughout the four seasons, and many people visit particularly in January when the canola flowers are in full bloom. We recommend taking a break at one of the cafes or over-water decks on the lake shore.

[Day 4]Cape Nagasakibana
A cape at the southernmost tip of Satsuma Peninsula

Cape Nagasakihana is known for its white lighthouse reflected on the blue sea. The stunning views around it make the place popular as a photo spot.
The area is said to be related to the Japanese fable Urashima Taro, about a fisherman who spends several days at an underwater palace only to return and discover that many years have passed, and there is also the nearby Ryugu Shrine that is said to offer blessings for matchmaking. One popular activity at the shrine is Kaigara Kigan, or “seashell prayer”, in which worshippers can write their wishes on a seashell, which many visitors do with sincerity.

This hot spring where you immerse your body in sand warmed by the hot spring waters that flow naturally from the seashore is an experience only to be found in Ibusuki. Popular as a “Japanese sauna”, the bath is said to be effective for detoxing and beautifying your skin. After trying the sand baths, make sure to enjoy the normal hot spring bath at the facility as well.
