Beautiful sandy beaches and blue seas! Here we introduce our recommended summer destinations where you can enjoy the tropical mood of Miyazaki, from popular swimming beaches you have to visit in the summer, as well as lesser known and less crowded beaches, to outdoor pools. Enjoy swimming or marine sports with your family and friends.
[Central Region] Aoshima Beach (Miyazaki City)
This beach is located on Aoshima, a popular tourist destination. Visitors here can try marine sports such as sea kayaking and standup paddleboarding year round at the Aoshima Beach Center Nagisa no Koban. There are also shops available at the nearby Aoshima Beach Park, where we recommend taking a break while getting a drink or bite to eat. Other nearby sightseeing options include Aoshima Shrine, and there are more restaurants and even accommodations at Aoshima Beach Village, so there is plenty at this beach to occupy your interest for the whole day.

Sunbeach Hitotsuba (Miyazaki City)
View moreSunbeach Hitotsuba is a manmade beach in Miyazaki Seaside Park. We recommend the southern beach, with its gentle waves, as a great place to bring the kids for swimming. The north beach is dedicated to marine sports, including options such as canoeing and standup paddleboarding. There are free barbecue spaces in the plaza, and there are even sports courts where you can play basketball and skateboarding.
The Beach Burger House, a California beach style burger shop, is also located on the grounds, and is a great place to take a break and enjoy a burger. -
Shirahama Beach (Miyazaki City)
View moreThis beach is located in a large cove sandwiched between Aoshima and the Horikiri Pass. The waves are gentle here, so you can safely spend time with the children. The beach is fully equipped with toilets, changing rooms, and showers (which require a fee). There is also an auto campground and a hotel with a hot spring nearby that is open to day-trip guests.

Takanabe Beach (Takanabe Town)
View moreThis beach along the central coast of Miyazaki offers pristine water and gentle waves. The beach is also known as a spawning ground for the loggerhead turtle, a national natural treasure. There is a famous surf spot here that is filled with numerous surfers year round. There is also a camping village in the adjacent pine grove.
[Northern region]Shimoaso Beach (Nobeoka City)
This beach is praised as the number one beach in Kyushu, with its crystal clear waters and spacious white sandy beach. The islands floating right off shore form a natural breakwater, making the waves gentle and creating a safe place for children to play. Roadside Station Kitaura, located right next door, offers a variety of facilities including a restaurant, break area, cabins, and an autocamp ground. There is also a riverside pool, so it’s a great place to bring small children.

Kumanoe Beach (Nobeoka City)

Well loved by the locals, the spot is surrounded by mountains, resulting in a mood much like a private beach on an isolated island. Enjoy swimming to your heart’s content in the crystal clear waters along the 800 meter white sandy beach.

Sumie Beach (Nobeoka City)
View moreThis beach offers crystal clear waters and a beautiful coastline. Known as Sumie Family Resort Village, the associated facilities wrapped along that coastline include cabins, an auto campsite, mini golf, tennis courts, and a dog run. Visitors can also enjoy athletic activities and barbecues at the adjacent Beach Forest Sumie, and there is even the Sumie Family Aquarium there as well.

Mihokogaura Beach (Hyuga City)
View moreLocated close to the Sea-Cruz, where wishes come true, this beach offers gentle waves, making it a safe place to spend time with the family. In addition to swimming, it is a perfect spot for standup paddleboarding. The Mikokogaura Park is also nearby, where children can play on playground equipment or on the grass, as well as the Mihokogaura Campsite that includes cooking areas and toilets, so visitors can enjoy outdoor activities along with swimming.

Isegahama Beach (Hyuga city)

Adjacent to the 300 meter long white sand beach, there is a parking lot and a beach house with toilets, showers, and lockers. The waves here are rather high compared to other beaches, so visitors can play in the ocean waves off the beach.

Kanegahama Beach (Hyuga City)

Nearby facilities include the Kanegahama View-Enchi (a play on words that sounds like “yuenchi”, the Japanese word for amusement park), that offers a view of the entirety of Kanegahama, and Stairs of the Sea, a shopping center that includes restaurants, apparel shops, and other variety stores, and you can spend a leisurely moment there taking in the view of the vast Pacific Ocean.
[Southern region] Odotsu Beach (Nichinan City)
This beach, located along a large inlet, offers small, quiet waves and a spectacular view. The small islands floating off shore are actually manmade rocks that make a perfect place to play. There is a toddler’s pool located in front of the beach house, making it a safe place to bring small children.

The water here is particularly pristine, and there is a toddler’s pool as well, making it a safe place to bring small children. Nearby popular tourist destinations include Udo Jingu and Sun Messe Nichinan.

The beach is known as a great place for marine sports, including scuba diving. There is also a campground here, complete with permanent tents and barbecue sets available to rent.

Takamatsu Beach (Kushima City)
View moreThis is the southernmost beach in Miyazaki Prefecture. This beach is popular with families for the quiet waves and the shallow water for some distance off shore. The water is pristine, and this is a perfect spot for standup paddleboarding when the wind is light. Standup paddleboard rentals and workshops are available, and lectures are available if desired, so the sport is an option for beginners and children too. Takamatsu Camp Park is located next door, and Shibushi Bay Daikoku Dolphin Land is nearby as well.

Nojiri Kopia Swimming Pool with Slides (Kobayashi City)

The 91 meter long water slide is also quite thrilling. Other facilities include a 40 centimeter deep toddler’s pool and a general pool ranging 70 to 110 centimeters deep. View moreThis outdoor pool is popular for its three water slides, including a very fast and thrilling straight slide and a curved slide reaching 14 meters high.
